China has reportedly developed its own version of the German Boxer vehicle, as shown in images recently published on Chinese social media.
The photos, which appeared on the Chinese social network Weibo, show the vehicle driving through an industrial area in Baotou, located in China’s Inner Mongolia region.
The exact date the photos were taken is still unknown, but observers noted that an image of this vehicle had already been seen at the same location about six months earlier.
According to a report from Defence Blog, the new Chinese vehicle, which closely resembles the German-Dutch Boxer platform, has reignited speculation about China’s efforts to develop modular armored solutions for export markets.
Nicknamed by internet users as the “AliExpress Boxer”, the Chinese vehicle shown in the photos features a structure and layout very similar to the German vehicle currently used by NATO member states.
The Chinese version features a V-shaped hull, a modular structure, and an armored driver’s cabin, as well as a longer wheelbase and increased internal space, bringing many similarities to the Boxer design.
Analysts believe the vehicle is not intended for domestic service by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Instead, several sources suggest that the platform is a prototype aimed at export, possibly intended for customers in the Middle East.
“Most likely, this is an export-oriented prototype developed for the Middle Eastern market, including Algeria,” one analyst noted.
However, while its exterior design strongly resembles that of a German Boxer, more information about the Chinese vehicle remains unknown, including the manufacturer, powertrain, internal systems, and protection levels.
